Siem Reap / Angkor Wat
We stayed in Siem Reap the last 3 days of an 11 day Mekong River Cruise we took in March of 2019 (see pages on Viet Nam and Cambodia). Scenic put us up in a very nice hotel and we got to spend 2 days exploring the Temples. Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, and Angkor Thom. We saw where several scenes for the 2000 release of "Laura Croft, Tomb Raider" was filmed. It was very hot when we went and we did lots of walking. One night we went to see a performance of the Cambodian Circus. The last afternoon we were there, we ventured out on a Tuk Tuk and rode around the city. We later walked around on our own trying to find a Starbucks (we did). Siem Reap is very safe, the people are very friendly and we were not bombarded by street hustlers like we were in Saigon. As in Viet Nam, the exchange rate is very favorable to the dollar and we were astounded as to how inexpensive everything was. We got up early one morning to see Angkor Wat at sunrise which was worth the wait and very memorable. We ended our trip with an "under the stars" gala extravaganza catered by Scenic at one of the temples. It was a great way to end a most enjoyable two weeks.
