Craig & Trina's Travel Log
Ecuador
In June of 2019, we spent a day and night in Quito prior to flying out to the Galapagos to start our cruise. Quito is at 9,250 of altitude and high in the middle of the Andes mountains. We took a guided tour of the city and the first stop was at the the true equator (shown above) GPS 00',00',00". "La Mitad del Mundo". Literally translated to the middle of the world. Fun fact: at the exact equator, the sun rises and sets every day at 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.
The rest of Quito was very pristine, picturesque and their monetary unit is the U.S. dollar. We had some great food, saw lots of Catholic churches as well as the largest aluminum statue in the world. We definitely would come back again.
