Craig & Trina's Travel Log
Cuba
In February of 2019, we took a 7 day cruise on the Viking Star to Cuba. We had stops in two Cuban cities planned, but because of bad weather, were only able to go ashore in Cienfuegos. Don (Trina's brother) and Jennifer (wife) went with us. (it was actually his idea to go). What we saw on our "guided" tours was just sad. There is so much neglect and poverty. The people we met were all very nice and welcoming. We got to see the town of Cienfuegos one day and the next, got a tour of the Cold War Museum which was situated on the site of the failed, Bay of Pigs invasion. It was very interesting to hear how the Cubans defeated the U.S. military and sent them packing. One of the stops we made on our city tour was a cigar factory which forbade us from taking any pictures. Highly interesting and informative.
We got to visit Cuba just in time before the travel embargo was put back in place banning cruise ships from stopping. On a more pleasant note, the ship was really nice and we had great food and plenty of time to relax out at the pool. Viking is a top notch cruise line.
