In August of 2002, we took Callie and Trina's Mother (Gran) for a five day trip to Alaska.  We flew up to Anchorage where we stayed.  We rode Alaska Railroad up to Denali State Park where we spent the night.  We took a wildlife tour highlighted by the spotting of some Kodiac Brown Bears out in the wild (Callie would rather read her People Magazine). That night we did the Alaska Cabin Nite dinner theater, which Gran thoroughly enjoyed.   Back in Anchorage, I remember taking Callie to see a movie that didn't let out until close to 11:00 pm.  We walked outside into a bright evening sunlight.  My recollection was that, because of all the ice and snow, very few of the roads were paved and the road grading machines were just left out to be used when needed.
