Italy - Portofino and Livorno

Livorno and Portofino were the 5th  and 6th stops on our April 2016 Mediterannean cruise on Silverseas.  Being on the Italian Riviera, both of these are popular beach vacation spots for Italians on holiday.  In Livorno, we took a 30 minute bus ride to the town of Pisa to see the Leaning Tower (shown above).  The tower is one of the four buildings that make up the cathedral complex in Pisa, called Campo dei Miracoli or Piazza dei Miracoli, which means Field of Miracles.  The only bad part of our outing was walking the gauntlet of t-shirt stalls and other tourist crap.  There is also a large contention of Nigerian street scammers and hustlers to deal with.  Once you get in, its a wondrous experience.  There wasn't much to see in Portofino.  We didn't go on any of the excursions and just walked around for a couple of hours and went back to the ship.
