Northern Ireland

During our September, 2016 trip to Ireland, we spent a day driving up into Northern Ireland. (it is still part of the U.K. after breaking away in 1913)  In Belfast, we took a Black cab tour  which showed how the rift between the Protestants and the Catholics still exists to this day.  Shown above is the Peace Wall, which stretches nearly half a mile, dividing the C & P sections of town.  You can sign the wall or place a message on it and there are already over a million signatures.  President Bill Clinton was the first to sign when it was first erected.  We signed as well.   In 2013, the BBC actually made a 17 episode police drama depicting the problems between the two factions called "The Fall" which is the name of the gated road dividing the two sections.  At the end of the tour we stopped by to see the ship yard where the Titanic was built.  Outside Belfast, the rest of Northern Ireland throughout the countryside is very picturesque and idyllic.
