Viet Nam

In March of 2019, we took an 11 day Mekong River Cruise with Scenic Luxury Cruises. Shown above is our driver and sign, a welcome sight after almost 20 hours in the air.   We flew into Ho Chi Minh City (even though everyone still calls it Saigon) spending a day walking around and three cruise days on the river.  We visited some open air markets, a bird sanctuary, a Buddhist temple and an old colonial French country home.  The people were all very friendly and because of the exchange rate with the Vietnamese Dong, prices were very very cheap.  Saigon has lots of problems with air pollution.  We couldn't stay out more than 30 to 45 minutes at a time.  As you get into the countryside, it is evident that there is a trash problem.  The country has banned plastic bags so trash is everywhere along the sides of the road.  The guide said that was the way it was until the government changes policy.
