Hawaii

In April of 2011, we spent seven days in Hawaii.  We stayed in a beach condo on Oahu and took two inter-island flights to Kauai and Hilo on the big island.  Our first and most meaningful trip was out to Pearl harbor to see the Arizona Memorial (shown above).  When we went through, not one of the 100 or so tourists spoke a word in respect and reverence as we looked at all the names and saw what happened.  We also went aboard and walked around the U.S.S. Missouri, which was in the same complex.  We took a tour of the Kualoa Ranch where movies like Lost, and Jurrasic Park were filmed,  The day we flew to Hilo, we went up to Kiluaea and saw the steam coming up from the volcano.  Kauai was very beautiful with lots of lush scenery, but was very, very expensive.  Gasoline there was up over $6 a gallon.  We did say if we ever went back, we would skip Oahu.  It was way too crowded and touristy.
