The 3rd stop of our February 2018 Caribbean cruise on Silverseas was Samana, a small seaport in the Dominican Republic.  We took an all day 4 wheeler excursion that took us from up in the hills to down on the beach.  That was the first time either one of us had rode for any length of time and it was a blast.  We stopped at a small cigar rolling facility, where we saw them rolled by hand.  We stopped at a secluded waterfall where we could go swimming to beat the heat.  We had a nice lunch down on a private beach where we got to have some "free riding" time.  This was all we saw of the DR, so I cannot attest to the unpleasantness going on now with tourists.
