Machu Picchu

One of the 7 wonders of the modern world and the trip of a lifetime, Machu Picchu is not easy to get to.  It requires flights to Lima, Peru and onward to Cuzco.  At least a day is needed to adjust to the altitude (11,300 ft.)  From there you take a 3 1/2 hour train ride to the town of Macchu Pichu followed by a 20 minute bus ride up a mountain to the entrance (shown above).   We made the trip in November of 2017 and the weather was perfect.  Peru is a very safe country that welcomes American tourists.  We had a travel company, Peru for Less, make all the arrangements for us.  We had guided tours of Cuzco as well as the Sacred Valley.  It was money well spent.  Delta has a direct flight to Lima every day.  See the page on Peru for more pics.
